Though I've just submited a few icons to the ObjectDock skin area, I've been a visiter and registered user of WC for a long time. One thing easy to see is, there are too many icons for the "famous" programs, like Photoshop, Winamp, WMP... As I know, a lot of people use many other programs on their PC, and they can't find their OD icons anywhere, as well as they do not know how to create one themselves (as in my case before).
So, why don't we have an "open area" for those OD users to request for their favorite programs' icons? And those who can use graphical apps can create them. It's also a chance to improve your skills isn't it ?
I'll be the first... Any one need an icon? You can send me a screenshot of the origin icon, and I'll try to make it an OD one (128, 256, in PNG or ICO...).
Not so good in graphik, so I need the help from the pro gd!

Nice work Phoenixheart and Bandit!

I'm still not getting the updates in my email, either.

I would love to jump in here.
I googled those things, arcturus, but I am getting a variety of results. Let me see if I can help.

First...go to Image Shack WWW Link
You can browse for the pic you wanna post from your PC. Click on 'Host It'. Let it grab the pic. The next page will show the pic with a crapload of options on how to post it. I always use the bottom one 'Direct Link' and copy the url. Then, in the forum here, click on the little image icon (Mountain and orange sun) and post the link in the window that will pop up. I have had no luck trying to grab an image for imageshack right from a sight with the URL link. I always download the image to my PC and then browse for it there from imageshack.

If you still can't swing posting an image here, then give us a little more detail on the software/site/ whatever it is you want the icon for, so when we goggle it, we know what to look for.

SO Po's HERE!!! Such a long long time! Where did you go man???
arcturus, now he's taking care of your request, and I will say: congrats!!!
maxharlan, an uploaded icon is not available right away. Firstly it will be previewed by Wincustomize's moderators, we call this the moderation progress Only if it is accepted, the download link will be available. This often takes me 2 days or more.

I never said that. lol.

I was just trying to help a little. I don't know what he wants and was trying to help him help you, Bandit, or me if I can find the time.

Your work and Bandits just keeps getting better and better. I feel so out of practice and left behind. lol. I hope they fix these updates soon.

Thanks Phoenixheart for clearing that up. I figured it was something like that, but just wanted to double check.

Thanks for the help and interest Po'! Here's my attempt with the images.

My avatar is the second generation of an image I've been fiddlin' with, and learning on, created in Paint.net. I was thinking, after seeing all the great work all of you have done in this forum, that someone might have a slightly different thought on a runner icon - unique and cool, expertly produced! - for files I use on my desktop. I have used the images shown from the galleries, sometimes changed them a bit for my own use, and used them as inspiration to try the creation of icons I then use on files for my running logs, etc.

I also could use more typical icons/dock icons for the 2 softwares mentioned - Garmin and Motionbased. Both these could use the artist's touch-up, as you all have done so well with many, many other icons!

I hope this makes things more clear. I really appreciate the interest you're taking in helping out!!

Mark

P.S. Po', I never did read about it, how did the show go (back in December wasn't it)?
P.P.S. I loved your "audition for" Zoomba

on Jan 05, 2007
Did you make the first runner? If so, it's good. I would use it.

I'll try to tackle one of the others in the meantime.

The gig went well and thanks for the feedback on the 'audition'. Still haven't heard from Zoomba, though. lol.

I've only made the green avatar/logo (in various forms, but hopefully learning more each version). The other (yellow ones) I found in the galleries - and I have messed with them a bit, but did not want to use them publicly since someone else did the creating!

Just finished reading the rest of your writing on Joe User - great fun!! I had previously read the Christmas Elf, and got good mileage from re-telling it at family Christmas (proper acknowledgment to the author , of course!!).

Thanks again, Mark

WHOOAA!! That's excellent, amazing and awesome!

That will be great on my dock and desktop! I'm extremely impressed. The little I've learned when trying to create icons, etc., makes me even more jealous of the detail of your work - the colours (Canadian spelling!), textures and shadows are great!

I know the moderation process can take a while. What primary criteria is it based on - work quality....assumed popularity of the program the artwork is made for ...other ...or a combination??

Thank you very much Po'!!

If I knew what the mods based their decisions on, I could make a fortune selling that secret to half the folks here.lol. Seriously, I think quality but more importantly with a lot of these is usability. It has to work and be usable. They are pretty good about getting stuff up without a lot of delay.

Poularity of the program has nothing to do with it. Half the stuff I have done in this thread, I never heard of.

The mods are pretty good about getting the stuff through without a lot of delay. 1 to 5 days, but I have seen stuff go up in the same day when they are real
Thanks for the compliments. Here's another. Hope you like it. I am a bit out of practice with these.

Out of practice my a**!!! That's AMAZING!! You captured the essence of the Garmin GPS perfectly, and with graphics that are beautiful!! And both icons in a couple hours - unbelievable! I can take a couple hours just to figure out how to get one layer to not show on top of another. LOL!

Phoenixheart was right when he said I would be taken care of!! Not only am I impressed but inspired! (now I'll have to get up early to go for my run, so that I can play with my paint.net and GIMP!!). I realize the other request for a runner figure is out of the ordinary, but if any ideas hit ya upside the head...!!

Thank you very much for the art (and the stories, and the music...)!! Keep up the great work.

Mark

I forgot one thing. Imageshack, which used to be an excellent image hosting, now seems to be too slow - or is it a problem with my connection? Anyway, I'm switching to Photobucket, as this is also a good place for images with hot-linking support.
